Data-Link Layer (OSI)
The Data-Link layer is the second layer of the OSI model. Technologies within this layer focus on getting information from one device to another. This happens in the local network, such as within a VLAN.
Ethernet is an example of a protocol that works at layer-2. In fact, it’s the most common layer-2 protocol. To deliver information, Ethernet breaks information into manageable chinks called frames.
VLANs and MAC addresses are also technologies used at layer-2. They are also part of the Ethernet protocol.
Layer-2 protocols are responsible for flow control and error correction within the local network.
